On April 12 I’m scheduled for anterior cervical decompression and fusion. As nervous as I am about the surgery, I’m actually looking forward to it. I’ve been in pain for close to two months now, and recently it has become almost unbearable, so I’m glad relief is coming soon. Although I’ve felt worse pain before (for example, I once had stitches in my head without anesthesia, which kinda’ stung), this is the first (and hopefully last) time I’ve experienced chronic pain, and it really consumes your life.
It will be a few weeks before I’ll fully return to work, but I should be able to handle light typing within a few days. In the meantime, I plan to recover by eating several buckets of ice cream and finally watching every DVD I’ve ordered from Amazon.com but never had time to watch :)
