  1. man, I hate mid shift on days like this – I have to wait until I get home before I can see the latest FD goodness :)…
Can you release the next one at 9am? :) :)

  2. Wow, the new “popular topics” is absolutely amazing. I am very impressed!

  3. I’m glad to hear you like the upgraded “Popular Topics,” Tim. That’s my favorite feature in FeedDemon right now, but I get the feeling that many people aren’t using it.

  4. Well,
I’m using it :) It wasn’t expecting it, but quite often I find there interesting things from feeds I do not subscribe… I only miss short descriptions of the topics (and ability to mark them as read, i.e. treat as a feed), although I *know* it’s not a place to post such requests… :)

PS: Maybe it should be FeedDemon’s homepage after launch, in order to accustomate users..?

  5. Radek, that’s great that you’re using “Popular Topics” to find new stuff – that’s exactly what I was hoping would happen.
Making it FeedDemon’s homepage is an interesting idea, but right now I’m used to the “Subscriptions Home” being the homepage (and I’m sure others are, too). Perhaps a single page that was a combination of the two would be useful?

  6. y’know – it’s really “out of sight, out of mind” with this feature. I mean, I never really used it this cycle – I think I brought it up once early on, glanced at it, said “that’s nice” and went on. After this last comment, I went back in and used it – really paid attention to it and I am a convert now as well.
But it gets back to “out of sight, out of mind” – I never spend more than .05ms looking at the Subscriptions page, so just now I hacked Surfer to add it to the top banner (I also added the dinosaurs report link there as well :) ) – so why not just add it to your main styles as well as subscriptions.xsl? OK, now I know why not :) – I just looked and found the fershlugginger toolbar button – if not put it in the style, and you want to be seen, what about making it initially visible by default (sigh – yeah, I know people don’t like their toolbars messed with, but…)?

  7. Nice to know you converted :) That toolbutton was visible by default in v2.1, but I still don’t think people knew about it – it was just another toolbutton among many.
Jack once suggested that I put “Popular Topics” – along with the new 2.5 reports – under a separate “Reports” icon in the subscription tree. I shied away from that, but maybe I shouldn’t have (that would at least make the reports more obvious).

  8. Why be wishy-washy with that “maybe” stuff. Just say “Jack is right”, add the reports to the tree, and move on. ;)
FWIW, I still have posts showing up that I can’t hide. Clicking the X doesn’t do anything on a few Engadget posts at the moment. Not sure if it’s specific to these posts, that feed, or something else as I’m still not using Popular Topics regularly.
