ANN: FeedDemon 2.6.1 Beta 2

The first beta of FeedDemon 2.6.1 was kept fairly quiet, but I’m done keeping quiet now that beta 2 is out :)

Version 2.6.1 is primarily a bugfix release, but it also contains some nice improvements:

  • "Find Feeds" now enables subscribing to multiple feeds at once
  • Clippings folders that have an RSS feed now have an RSS icon overlaid on them
  • Lots of optimizations, especially with the embedded browser, favicons and synchronization

The biggest change in this release is that I’ve switched to SQLite for storing popular topics and feed history data.  This change should have little impact on regular usage – it’s really just a first step towards moving all data (including your subscriptions) to SQLite in a future version (v3.0, most likely).

Download details and release notes can be found on the FeedDemon Beta Site.  As always, simply install this pre-release directly on top of your existing version – there’s no need to uninstall first.

  1. Hi Nick.
Can I use this opportunity to ask if it is at all possible to make installation of FeedStation an option, because every time I, personally, end up uninstalling it at the end of install or upgrade of FeedDemon. I use other means of getting podcasts (audio and video) and just don’t have any real need for it. And it takes space (small, as it is), extra folder in Program Files folder and an extra entry in Start menu. It bugs me. :)
Another thing: how can I get rid of attention data? When importing OPMLs of my feed, collecting attention data is always ticked by default. It might be easy to go to each feed and uncheck it manually, but I have lots of feeds and need to dedicate some time to do so. I can’t even disable it on per folder basis. It’s a good option, but the issue I have is that not that I don’t pay attention to particular feed, it’s just it’s updated once a month (or less). I don’t really need that info (personally, again :))
I apologize to posting such requests here, instead of support forum, but I’m not really a writing person. And registering on a forum for a single request is not really worth it.
Thank you in advance and best regards.
